OpenCanvas > Painter.

I hate Painter.

I do. I really do. But I didn't realize how much I hated it until I got openCanvas.

For over a year, I've been trying to teach myself to paint digitally with Painter. No dice, on account I tend to be pretty easily discouraged when programs crash, corrupt the save files, and destroy eight or ten hours of work randomly. I'm pretty goddamned pleased to say I won't need to worry about that anymore.

Lea recently recommended oC to me after I mentioned I was drawing on oekaki boards, so I found a copy and tried it out. Blessed, blessed simplicity. It's a little like Painter Lite. I knocked this out in about two or three hours, and I'm pretty sure it only took that long because I have no idea what I'm doing.

So yeah, Go oC go. Gets the Spike seal of approval, as little as that may mean. If Painter's frustrating you as much as it frustrated me, try oC out. Very zen.

Lea knows!

I fell in the same kind of love, because I got Painter back when it wasn't a top-heavy pieceashit, and even though it STILL saved slow, it WAS useable. Painter broke my heart with version 5, which was just JUNK.

Then comes Oc. Yes.

Download some of them event files. You'll learn bunches!

And here I was thinking my not understanding Painter was because I was retarded.

Well, maybe I still am, but oC kicks so much ass. The simpler, the better.

I'm no tard when it comes to paint programs. Painter's just a useless, bloated motherfucker.

yeh... OpenCanvas is very "Zen." I actually do love painter (I'm running version 8 for a while now with out any problems), but there's something about OpenCanvas that just allows me to flow. Can't put my finger. Maybe it's the ridiculously simple interface (compared to PS, PSP, and painter, at least), or maybe it's how smooth it registers my Wacom pressure (far less overhead than most apps), but whatever it is, OC has won my heart and is just perfect for personal projects. I'd never do any serious work in OC though. Maybe it's my skills, but nothing comes out looking very professional.
