It appears that the mickey thing has been overwhelmed and has caused Geocities to shut the site down. Either that or Disney stepped in.

It was up for me. Geocities has bandwith limits that's all.
That was messed up, but cute in a way. I loved how the little squirrels cheered Mickey up and made his noose into a swing. I wish Disney's archivists would reprint this stuff.

Yeah... Disney Comics are kind of a weird thing - I thikn they captured a great sense of character and a better sense of a Disney "world" much better than the cartoons. In the comics, you feel like Mickey's town is near Duckburg, etc. And check this out - you know that horrible practice of making dtv sequels to classic Disney films? Well, the Lady and the Tramp one (which I didn't see, so don't really have a frame of reference) looked terrible, but the Scamp character (Tramp's kid) actually appeared in his own Disney strip in the 50's! I'm not sure if this gives more credence to the character or not, but I guess for me it kinda does (even though I still haven't seen the film and don't really plan to.)

Yeah, I noticed that Mickey's romantic rival in those strips is now the slightly pervy Rodney the Rat on Mickey Mouse Works/House of Mouse. It's fun when they pay attention to little things like that.
I wish Disney would keep making TV Series/Sequels to stuff that suits the formula. Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast had pretty definite endings.
Whereas, say, the Rescuers was something that'd lend well to sequels [like the DownUnder movie]. I'd love to see more of it... though that 80's Chip+Dale series was a spinoff of it of sorts... I wish Disney would release their TV series on DVD.

I'm pretty sure that Rodney character (though i'm not sure if that was his name) appeared in an old cartoon, too, where he was trying to steal Minnie away. Again. And I just want to go on record saying that, even though I haven't seen alot of it and the bright, almost garish colors get to me; but those House of Mouse cartoons are pretty cool. They really captured the feel of the old ones and it's too bad it's not better promoted. One thing I'll give Disney - they take care of their classic characters. Unlike another animation studio which has squandered and destroyed ITS character trying to get them back in action....

I haven't seen LTBIA, but the reviews I've read sound great. It seems like it's more that they promoted it poorly. I also imagine it would of done better if it were just an animated film. Still, I'll look forward to it on Video :)
A lot of reviews note how means the Tunes characters are. I think they've not seen much of the originals.
Tweety's the cutest lil' Sadist there is, folks.

I thought the rat's name was "Slick Willy."
And I've actually heard pretty bad things about the new Looney Tunes movie. But huh, yeah... Rotten Tomatoes seems to give it a passing mark. Barely passing, but passing all the same. I think it's definitely in the "torrent" instead of "pay for" category, though.

Slick Willy? Hmmm... why does Mortimer come to mind? And as far as the Looney Tunes go, don't you think it's sad that they've evolved into purely merchandising characters? And don't get me started on that Looney Tunes baby thing. GOD it makes me want to scratch my eyes out...

Maybe "Mortimer" comes to mind because Disney almost named Mickey that? His wife made him change his mind.
Berkeley Breathed also had a character named "Mortimer Mouse" in his Outland strip for a while, who claimed he was Mickey's brother. Disney tried to sue.
And old cartoons are just excuses for licensing these days because they're controlled by conglomarates instead of artists. Kinda inevitable....

It's ridiculous how many really, really bad kid's cartoons there are nowadays. After watching even only one Barbie Princess movie, you kind of start to give up hope. Stuff like this reminds you that the were on the right track originally, at least. The old stuff is usually better, because there was a lot less money to be made from it (very little merchandising). That's one of the reasons that the communist-era Russian books and cartoons and things are so good. The people who made them got nothing but relative fame.
