Fun with The Sims.

So... I've been getting back into The Sims, after a long bout of disinterest. It turns out I'll have half a year or so to wait until the sequel goes gold, so I might as well get a little practice in.

One of the nicest things about games like The Sims is how easy it is to customize. There must be a hundred sites out there that specialize in groovy things you can download for the game; I especially dig Seven Deadly Sims and Persimmon Grove. But recently, Matt and I were forced to start making our own crap.

The game comes equipped with a menorah and Christmas tree, but nothing with Jesus on it. The West Virginian shotgun shack of my redneck couple, Dag and Nellie Gummit, was feeling the absence. Something had to be done.

The painting itself, front and back. That's Nellie admiring it in the foreground on the left.

The purchase window description.

(Nellie's housecoat-and-curlers ensemble, along with most of the kitchen you can see in the first shot, is available in the Sloth section over on "Seven Deadly Sims.")

It's not bad, for a first effort. But I think it's lonely. Wonder if we could churn out a truck-tire planter for the front yard and a velvet Elvis for the bedroom....

Elvis is obviously necessary, but I think I'm actually going to make more Jesus crap. Aryan Christ here is funny, but some of the -other- Jesus paintings I found along with it are hilariously insane.

Also, the Gummits definitely need some patriotic bric-a-brac. A crying eagle poster would be great, for example. And somebody out there -must- have already made a flag. I bet we could apply stars-and-stripes (or stars-and-bars, for extra hick flavor!) motifs to some ordinary household stuff.

I have been trying to get the following made for aaaages...

1. Old toilet turned front yard planter.
Nothing like a couple of porcelain urns to fancy up the acerage out by the still.

2. Rebel flag turned curtains.
Staple 'em up and VOI-LA! Instant class!

3. Scum covered kiddie pool.
Who needs a fancy pond when one can simply let that old, plastic wading pool grow over with algae? Soon enough you'll have your own little world of mosquitoes, slugs and drowned squirrles! Mmm! Like an organic market in your own front yard!

Oh, and I highly recommend the "Motel" set over at 8DS. Some of it requires the Vacation expansion pack, but not all of it. And they have a Virgin Mary poster sourrounded by colored lights!

We are are cruel, vicious, ugly people.

(Loving the rebel flag curtains idea.)

And the quintessential yard ornament: an old car up on blocks.
