New Vermin!

Neil, my surviving rat, is quite old and frail. He spent most of his life with Beavis, but Beavis has been dead for almost two months, now. (If you visit this page with any regularity, you probably already know what I'm doing to him.) Nothing's more depressing than spending your twilight years alone. In a cage. On a coffee table. So I went out today, and I got Neil some friends.

Here they are.

I set the closed carrier in the center of the cage to let them all get used to each other's smells, first. Also, to keep Neil from eating his new playmates, which I sincerely believed he was totally capable of. When I opened the carrier door, Neil climbed in and fell asleep on top of them. I hope that's a good sign.

This rat was extremely energetic on the trip home. Crawling and jumping around the carrier, pawing through the bedding, nibbling on the complimentary dog biscuits I swiped at the pet store checkout line. I think I'll call him Busy.

This rat fell asleep immediately, and stayed asleep for the entire train ride. He seems a bit a lazy, more than a bit slow, and completely devoid of any sense of adventure or experimentation. Also, he steals.

His name is Fanfic.

Those are cute rats! Busy makes me think of early 90's canadian tv classic Ready Or Not. I like that. And Fanfic is the best rat name ever :)

My brother and I are trying to convince our Mom to let us get some kind of rodent/minature rabbit, but she's got a fear of em, so it's not likely until we move out...... Gerbils are #1 on my list currently, and Dagus are #2 [think a rat, but more mouse like, kinda kangarooey, and fluffier. And slightly bigger]

They're cute as hell, unlike the swarms of the little bastards that infest my block and mock me with their fearless determination.

Good to see that you got two. And naming the one "Fanfic" is genius.

You do realise that by naming him Fanfic, you are dooming him to pair off sexually with all the other rats? I mean every last possible combination... gods, those people creep me out. Don't they have SOMETHING better to do with their time?!?

I mean the rats... Yeah...

Spookable: if that happens, I'll change his name to Slashfic.

How freakin' adorable! I just love rodents...especially ratties. But I'm not allowed to have anymore since Evil Spinel the Gerbil died. My love to Neil, and special Maat love to Beavis the Everliving!

Speaking of ratties, Beavis should be a fine hunk of Rat-Jerky now. When's the next update on his passage ot the lands of Osiris?
