Random thought.
I wonder how many of the Republican House representatives that just nullified the Florida court ruling to remove the feeding tube and bumped Terry Schiavo's right-to-die case up to the federal courts have ever breathed a word about the evils of "activist judges" in California, or the erosion of state's rights.
Funny.
The moral of the story? Better get that living will in order.

I don't have any easy references to link to, but Living Will and Advance Directive law and the ethical positions surrounding them are evolving kind of rapidly right now. Mostly because people can't anticipate every situation so even fairly detailed Living Wills are leaving people stuck in situations they didn't anticipate.
The current best practices state is basically name a guardian, write your directives, and expect to revise it in five years.

all I know is these rulings are going to divide the christian right and more ways than ever, willingness to die and what is percieved as deliberate murder along with the preciousness of life are subjects that many people are afraid to tackle
