Stupid Thought of the Day.

Somebody should make a fighting game where all the characters are famous heretics.

It could be called HERETIC.

Girolamo Savonarola could be all dark and spooky and pyrokinetic.

Madalyn Murray O'Hair would be all about the attack reflection and dispelling charms.

Martin Luther would fight with a huge hammer in one hand, and a sheaf of papers in the other.

Anne Hutchinson could stalk around all vampy in a slit pilgrim-style skirt and low-cut bodice, do horrible things during the fight, and polish off enemies by calling in gangs of Indians to scalp them, but then have a halo blink into existence over her head the minute she clasps her hands together and look upwards.

And Pierre Abélard could be the that character every goddamn game has who's got a nubile young girl following him all the time.

The final boss could be Jesus.

O'Hair would probably be the least 'genic game heroine, being much shaped like a potato. She'd need a "volume" attack sort of like Banshee from the X-men, drowning everyone else out. She could also have Summon Donahue.

Other good heroes: Joan of Arc, Michael Servetus (the Unitarian) Bishop Niketas (of the Cathars) Peter Valdez (of the Waldensians) and Jan Hus. Would need to work on their special attacks.

Oh yeah, and there have already been two Heretic games. They were made by Raven based on the Doom engines. They're pretty old now.

What about Torqumada as a boss? Maybe even better than Jesus, because ultimately Jesus would turn out to be on the side of the Heretics. In fact Jesus himself would probably count as a heretic.

Mother Teresa could be a boss too. The heretics could huirl condoms to defeat her ever-multipliing army of undead poor Calcuttans (Calcuttites?).

Undead? Well of course, it is the time of final judgement, explaining why all the greatest heretics and saints from all of history have risen to walk the earth again. Plus it's a good excuse to include all the cool monsters from the book of Revalation.
