Illustration Friday: Reflection.

You know what world's stupidest reaction to a tattoo is? I mean, just the dumbest thing you can ask?

"Oh My God, what's that going to look like in fifty years?"

It'll probably still look like a tattoo, genius. And instead of being old and wrinkled and gray, the person will be old and wrinkled and gray... with a tattoo.

Woah. Gasp.

Good tattoos are practically diaries. Each picture has a story, and each story is a reflection of the person who tells it. A person with lots is like an open book, an autobiography, but written in a language you might not automatically recognize.

Being extensively tattooed must mean you remember something special every time you catch a a glimpse of yourself from an odd angle in the mirror.

See the rest of this Friday's illustrations here.

Old lady's covered in tattoos are cool. Middle aged people with one or two tatos are not. Go full tilt or don't do it at all.

i'm not a fan of tattoos, but to each his own, i'd say.

i think, though, that there would have to be some distortion, depending on the upkeep of the person's body, and i guess that's what people take issue with.

i dunno.

but it's a very good illo, and i think your drawings (those are yours, right) up top are niiice...

Ha! I love the flame rippling over her belly and the "Dougie" inscription. I showed this to Chase and he said pretty much what I was thinking, "at least with good tatoos you'd be a rowdy old person, instead of just an old person." The toe rings are a nice touch as well.

Just a note: We'd buy this if it was a print or something.

people shouldn't "take issue" with it if it ain't on their freakin body. whatever happened to manners? geeeeez.

what's the tat next to the paw marks? kanji...or a blair witch tattoo?

Good interpretation of the topic. People get ink for all kinds of reasons, and often it's to document something. So I guess you could "read" a person's life through his or her tattoos. For those who worry about sinking ships and flames that start to burn downward, it's probably a good idea to put them in areas not prone to the ravages of gravity! Anyway...funny illustration. I like it!

My mom is always saying that! I hate it!

"....just think of the poor nurse that has to take care of you when you get old, agh, how 'horrid' ....."

:) She drives me crazy saying that!

heheh, that's kinda the way i figure it. if you're gunna be old and wrinkled and saggy... you might as well have a tattoo to go along with it. and i happen to think a washed out slightly distored tattoo is the least unappealing feature of an old person. soooo... yeah, damn the nay sayers!

I just tell them I have no intention of living fifty more years. That shuts them up REAL quick-like so I can finish up with the "I love every one of my tats (5 at last count) and piercings and guess what? I did every last one of them for ME, not YOU, so let me be about my business" deal.

LOVE the illo.

What I love about this is that you have totally captured the essence of tattooing (and perhaps some other body mods by looking at her ear) here in your drawing and with your commentrary. A personal histroy....

You also reminded me to look more closely in the mirror in the mornings to reflect on my own story. Thanks :)
