Templar: The sign is only funny until you realize it's totally sincere.

And that YOU are the intended audience.

I haven't had much time to touch on the class rivalry that goes down in Templar (except for, y'know, the first twenty pages of this chapter), but there'll be more on that later.

...

Ya know, it takes a special kind of completely innocent social incompetence to cheerfully turn a spotlight on a near-stranger's physical eccentricities, then prattle on afterwards as if you have no idea you've just kicked their ego in the teeth. Especially when you're a bit of a freak yourself.

Oh MAN, did I have a busy weekend. Sorry I didn't update three times last week, guys, but I was just overwhelmed. And there's still a lot more to tell you guys about. I've been getting some great stuff in the mail, and The Pre-Order Project is over 2/3rds of the way to the goal, and popular demand is going to get a new t-shirt designed if you guys aren't careful. But I'll get into all that later.

Scip is adorable. I love the body language in this page - panel 2 especially.

Also? I must have that sign in my house.

As a dude who is 5' 0" even, I understand Ben's pain. I have large friends, my gf is 5' 11", and mostly I just get carded everywhere.

It's not a big deal, unless you have a very sweet friend like Scip who has no clue how to read body language. I feel bad for Scip, he probably doesn't "get" being short--he just can't.

Also, the Pippi/Scip relationship thickens! Great storyline. Scip's awesome.

The poster is a stroke of pure genius. The grinning, upper-class suburban socialites are exaggerated, but not by much. The various stains on the poster just complete the picture.

Also, I'm 5'7", but lots of people that live around here seem to be fairly short, so I rarely notice it.

Hey, Ben's taller than my dad.

another reader here who loves the poster!
also, i'm 5 foot tall, and a girl, and i look young ... it's not as bad as a girl to be this short, but i also get those random rude comments from near-strangers, and i always want to punch them in the face.

what a pity i can't reach to do so!

Hey, I remember seeing a similar poster in DC as a kid:

And is that the Caput Mortuum next to "We're Trying to Have a Civilization"?

There is a character in the play I am stage managing that is, I only realized this last night, so very much like Scipio. I mean, except Mike isn't twelve and a half feet tall. Just the goofy but looks like he shouldn't be part. I love it.

I dunno, I'll back you on on the social value of vaccination, school work and cleaning, but I have to reserve the right of personal discretion when it comes to reporting crimes and obeying laws.

Heh, I find that sign to be gratingly pretentious myself, if it were real - I'd be one of the ones with a paint can.

That picture Jeremiah had actually reminds me of a picture taken during the Great Depression, with a breadline forming underneath a billboard that has something about how great the American way of life was. My high school photography teacher used it as an example for juxtaposition.

... of course, despite about 15 minutes of searching, I cannot seem to find it on the Internet at all. Go figure.

A "We are trying to have a CIVILIZATION here" shirt would go perfectly with my "What the HELL people" shirt.

I'm 6'2", which I don't think is really that tall (I don't really tower over anybody who's over five foot, it's just "tall" not giant), but I still occasionally get comments on it. Stuff like, "Oh! You're tall." I think some people just don't have very good social filters.

Hey Spike,

I don't see why you're so surprised that the bar filled up so fast. You seriously underestimate yourself and Templar. It's still my favorite webcomic hands down.

Btw, just incase you want to check it out, I found a comic whose style reminds me of yours. And since you're a very outspoken female, it reminded me of you in a few ways too, it's called Girls With Slingshots by Danielle Corsetto. Great comic, and the style is very Templar-esque.

Good luck with your printing efforts! If i can ever decide what to request as a sketch in mine i'll order one lol.

Oh, hey, that's why it reminded me of the photo. It was the same damned billboard. Well, almost. Thanks for the link, though... I knew someone would be able to find it.

the little people in the poster remind me of Brian Carrol's Instant Classic comic. Last I remember it was www.iccomics.com or .net or something. Their hands are the same.

I'm not that tall, but being short is great... I'm like five... something... 5.6 probably. But I don't need to worry about hitting my head on random tree branches, I can have a napolean complex if I wanted one... and I can easily be stored for travel... yup being short isn't so bad. I guess it can be tough if you have alot of tall friends, But I don't so I'm fine.
