well, I always did think Ben was a little slow on the uptake.
Poor Gene, spending his time discussing music with a buffoon.

Didgeridoo! How can Gene forget a name like that? it's so FUN to SAY.

I love it. Gene isn't going 'oh my god whatever', he's genuinely despairing that Ben can't express himself through music. It's like having a vision impairment and finding out that no one else can read braille. 'What's wrong with him? Is he blind?'

I love weddings. Weddings are my favourite excuse for a party. None of this "you're a year closer to death" or "you've just escaped from school; now get a job!" parties, but a party that's essential message is "we're in love, and all these people are happy about it. Yay~!" I don't really mind if the wedding lasts or not; as long as the emotions at the time are real. Everyone should throw a party when they're in love.
Okay so I'm a bit of a sap. Laugh and I'll punch you in the face :P

fear the wrath of Amy
im not a fan of weddings, mostly because i've only ever gone to family weddings.
Every single freaking time I get an elderly person (who im assuming isn't from my side of the family) come up to me and tell me "you never know, you could find that special someone right here"
now this might be an attempt to cheer me up, or just an attempt to promote incest, i'm never quite sure

Gene's concern over Ben not playing anything is...is...
...aww hell I'll say it, it's touching.

Hey- I was married for less than five years. Of course we were together for ten altogether!
And our wedding was perfect!

I get that look a lot actually, because all I play is the dashboard drums. I'm on Ben's side on this one. I guess I'm very rarely swept away by music, and I've never really had an urge to play anything.

Tee hee, I got one-up on gene. I can play HARMONICA! AND guitar, banjo and mandolin...

Oh man, I want that last panel of Gene framed. That is the best look ever.

I've always wanted to be a multi-instrument musician. All I can play right now is a drumkit, but the guitar and trumpet look like good next steps.
Summer's here, I guess now would be a good time to start.
Anyway, this is probably my favorite scene in Templar so far. It really brings a lot of new, interesting, funny characters to the table (not to say the other scenes didn't, but y'know).

Oh man! I played the Crumhorn! Crumhorn (and by extention, most "early music") is the proverbal "sex".

Forgive the double-post, but I shoud say that if Gene can play crumhorn, he should be able to add a whole mess of other instruments with fun names - Shawm, Kortholt, Serpent, the Hautbois, and the humble recorder too. *nods*

I had to laugh because this looks a lot like an excerpt between myself and any of my musical friends! I play nothing- so many of my friends play either one instrument exceptionally well, or 4 very well, or 20 vaguely well... But they all play- and I'm like... I like music... And um... Oh look another subject to talk about!
On wedding matters- I've always had the most fun at the small ones where the reception is more like a very roudy prom/barn dance- lots of loud music, dancing and laughing. And I have lots of respect for my friends who've forgone the wedding entirely- just went to the j.o.p.- so they could buy a house or tour greece with the money instead.

I know how poor Ben feels. Because of my own failings in the music department, I just bought myself a violin. I've practiced before and picked up "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" pretty easily - my teacher is Asian and 6 years old (Suzaki Method and she's tough with it!)
I guess I'll have to inspire myself to play and watch videos online when I'm not babysitting :-)

The concertina is intense; in fact anything vaguely accordion-like and cool sounding is pretty rockin'. Like the harmonium.

You know, Gene may be stupid and he may think that Ben's the retard here, but he still seems nice. I like that. Actually, I don't really dislike ANY of the characters, and they all really stick with you. As for music...
Man, does he play a lot of stuff! I guess all of his brain-power went into that one thing. Me, I fiddle. I hesitate to use the word "violin," because that almost always makes people think classical. Which makes me wonder if Gene's ever done that kind of music... XD

I know this is the last post, and no-one will read it, but.
I got married yesterday. It was a massive party. Huge.
My husband wanted a dalek wedding cake, but we couldn't get one.
So, I bought a remote control dalek, iced it, and tied ribbons on it. At cake cutting time, a waiter sent it careening out onto the dance floor, pulling a lego trolley with the cake knife attached.
That was TOTALLY worth it.
ps. My dress was a crinoline based merengue, and it measured 4 metres around the base. That was also TOTALLY worth it.

Fish, I would like you to know that I read your post, and that was indeed fantastic.
I covet deviations from traditional weddings/birthdays/anniversaries/etc.
My 15th birthday cake said "Happy Birthday to Robin's Appendix."
THIS IS RELEVANT.
Though I foresee my wedding as being a small, tidy affair full of giggling, sarcasm, and sex jokes. Or do those happen normally? So... meh.

I like the idea; have it set up more as a "this is our 5 year anniversary party", kinda like a Bahtmizva (or however it's spelled, I dunno cuz I can't spell and i'm not jewish). It won't cut it out totally, but it'll lessen the "I've had 3 failed marrages already and I'm not even 30 yet" people. Divorse still happens... took my parents 25 years to figure out they couldn't stand each other.

That's a pretty genuine sad face Gene's got there. You know that face you make when you see a malformed quadripilegic who's totally dependent on others and think "god that's sad. How can you even call that LIVING?"?
Gene's making that face.

Yes, that's it exactly.
Gene's genuinely upset for Ben. He's even got the sad puppy dog eyes going at full blast.

It's conversations like these that remind me why Gene is my favorite character.
Although I sympathize with Ben. I couldn't even play the recorder! I am BAD at music.
And as far as weddings, I don't much like them. So I am in total agreement with this five-year shebang thing. It cut down on the time I need to spend in a dress.

Getting married myself as soon as her divorce is finalized. The old marriage has been over for years but there is legal issues and money issues and well. we can get the divorce cheaply or quickly but not both.
Plan is to have a small wedding with a lot of memories like the photos and the dress and the vows we are personally writing being the focal point of an otherwise simple wedding and buffet style reception.

I dunno about the wedding bit.
My dad and his current wife were together... uhm... Eight years before they wed.
So I mean. The exceptions to the rule bit would just be far to complicated. xD

My parents both play at least three instruments apiece, although my mother's count keeps getting longer. I sing. I have the musical talent that I'd need to learn any given instrument, and I've tried quite a few, I don't have the patience to practice with any instrument other than my own voice. On the other note, I'm getting married to my fiance in a little over a year. Trying to figure out how to create a guest list between my conservative extended family and my liberal college friends, all of whom I feel deserve to be there, is highly interesting.

I can play the clarinet -sorta- and sing, but sweetie can sing, play the piano, keyboards, as well as bandura (if you google "bandura instrument" he has relatives all over any page that comes up,) built his own hurdy-gurdy, and is currently working on a theremin, which I hope to learn to play. Very cool.
