Yeah. Occasionally I want to slap those folks and say "it's a comic. Mmk?"
My, Ben certainly has loosened up. "Here, steal my wallet! No, really, I wanna see!"
Actually, it really doesn't surprise me that Gene does that kinda thing. It's not like he's actually malicious about it - it might even be that he just doesn't quite have a sense of "this money's mine, it can't be yours." After all, money is passed around all the time, for reason not always entirely clear. Maybe Gene, like most savants, just cuts through the bullshit when it comes to the green stuff?
That's my theory at least.

I'm more intrigued by his "catalyze decomposition" statement. That's surprisingly polysyllabic for Gene, and stealing from drunk folks only is a confusing modis operandi.

Oftentimes the most interesting people at anime cons are the ones who're there because maybe the market overlaps, not because they're strictly anime or anything like that.
The Penny Arcade guys do anime cons. You'll be fine.

Good luck, Spike. I'm thinking "this isn't manga!" is a compliment, but de gustibus...

What. The. Fuck.
How the hell did Gene suddenly turn into River Tam from "Firefly?"
This is just getting more and more wonderfully bizarre.

wait, you were planning on something called "SUGOIcon" but suddenly an anime festival has you concerned?
the difference is name only. ;)

Yeah, Sugoi is totally an anime con. (It's a lot of fun, too, but definately anime. :) ) You should make sure to add Ohayocon to the list. We're an awesome con.

I saw Peter "The Last Unicorn" Beagle at this year's Otakon. He in the dealer's room right across from a garish Gaiaonline kiosk and a booth that sold half-naked posters of j-pop star Gackt Kamui. If that isn't a terrifying overlap moment, I don't know WHAT is.

Haha. Gene knowing how to say catalyze decomposition is probably the wierdest part of the whole thing!

Well, I saw when Gene did it.
He's in the bottom right corner of the "Hey, it's Screaming Guy!" strip, for what seemed to be no particular reason.
Ben's sheer delight at Gene's mad pickpocketing skillz is not something I expected. Panel three is one of my new favorite Ben faces of all time.
And I get the sense that Gene's said skills aren't something he came up with on his own - what with the "rules," and the odd little "unnumbered only" and "catalyze decomposition" non sequiturs it sounds like this is something somebody taught him. Like there's a Secret Templar Order of Pickpocketry or some such.

As NYC comic cons go, I was surprised you weren't at the MoCCA comics show in June, Spike. That's all about indie comics with a strong webcomics presence.

Am I the only one to think that "Catalyze Decomposition" might be "Screaming Guy"'s real name?
Yeah, it's hella weird, but it does come just before Gene says "this is him".
Although I suppose Gene could have learned the tricks of the trade from a radical nihilist or something; someone who was into to aiding those who are self-destructive in self-destructing.

Y'know, taken out of context, panel three could be interpreted as really really naughty.

Almost all con-going fanlets are scary in some fashion or another, it's just a matter of if you're A. Used to it and B. in a position to see them in action. I mean, they can't be scary every second of every day. The odds are good that they'll go vent the scary someplace else and leave you be.
... although a booth bouncer is always in good taste. Kind of like a smoking jacket.

I love Gene ... in a totally non-platonic way. But it's not a "dirty love", either.

Basically: Wouldn't that be manhwa? I've got to go re-read me some Krazy Kimchi...
Also: I got my book in the mail yesterday! It's awesome! When I finish it, it'll go on that shelf next to all the other webcomics that I could be reading for free, but instead bought the book because I have a problem. An obsession. The compulsion that helps pay the rent of many a webcomicsisist.
Moreso: I'm guessing Gene is a savant or something? **drops some matches on the floor, waits**

Catalyze Decomposition.
It means that by stealing the drunk's money, Gene is merely expediting what the drunk man is doing to himself. That is Decomposing. Gene is helping the drunk man destroy himself.
