My vote is for something Jakeskin.

You found somebody to do Blikada! Hooray, that's fantastic. I feel bad about our go at it never quite coordinating, but I can't wait to see what Stevie does with it. The ink looks great, are you guys going to work with that instead of pencil?
Anyhows, woo! Much excitement.

I would buy a Borndown shirt OR a Sincerist shirt. And I can't even express how much I love the current storyline.

Seriously, you write the best damn dialog in all of webcomics.

This is the first time I've had a problem with your art in... well... ever, but...
is there something I'm missing, or does Scip not have thighs?

Rob: I think he's all hunched over, like Reagan is, but it doesn't show as well in the kilt. *s*
Spike: Yay! New writing projects! Can't wait...
And as for T-shirts...my god, the possibilities. I kinda agree with Chickie Pants, I'd love something related to the Jakes...but I somehow don't see them advertising like that. *sigh*
But other than that...anything to do with a specific in-world product, like you said, would be fantastic. So that Templar addicts like myself can feel "part of your world"...to quote someone fishy.

RE the update apology, you are totally forgiven. If anything, I've missed the little update posts. They're always charming in your characteristic way, and they compliment new strips quite well.
I think if anyone has earned the right to not feel bad about a few missed updates, it's you. They're of such absurdly high quality, with a degree of emotional realism to faces and dialogue that you see so rarely, that nobody can hold it against you.
Not that we're encouraging you to develop bad habits. God no. We ARE fans, after all, and our dependence on your genius is such that we can't really behave as friends regarding your output. We will always crave more, and this biases us in manners we can't honestly correct for.
(Not that we think you're in danger of developing bad habits. God no. If anyone...)
Where was I? Oh yea: you're basically doing everything right. Keep it up, and don't worry. :P
(To whatever extent the two prove compatible? I suspect they can be, if your fanbase reacts just right. And maybe I'm off base, but I think yours tends to.)

Is it just me, or does Scip's head seem too big in that page ? Is it intentional ?
And no, Reagan, having your kids run around naked, or shaving their heads is probably not a crime BUT LETTING THEM PLAY WITH KNIVES IS DANGEROUS.

I third the "We are TRYING to have a CIVILIZATION HERE" t-shirt. Also, wha? Why are you having your comics drawn by someone else?? You of all people don't need to do that. Although you do do fantastic dialogue as well...

I love Reagan. I wish SHE had been my neighbour growing up instead of the uptight freaks who had a problem with a 4-year-old running around in her own backyard without a shirt on.
As for t-shirts? Borndown sounds awesome. I would also love a Xenophage shirt. Yum!

I can attest that the Templar book made it to Ann Arbor, Michigan. At least one copy. Which I then purchased.

Kindle, I think it's a time issue more than an ability issue. Spike already has two projects going plus whatever secret things on the side.
Also, Regan's pose is fantastic in this page. And I'm glad to have the blog back!

The weirdness with Scip: At first I thought the legs were too short, but after looking at it, the legs are fine. It's that the arms look too big and long.. looks like if he let them hang down, the hands would be about even with his knees. That and his head seems a little too big. What we're all used to seeing, especially in semi-realistic comics, is characters between 6 and 9 'heads' tall. In this drawing, Scip is about 3.8. Reagan is about 6, I think, so she looks okay. Scippio looks off. Also, it looks like if Reagan straightened up, she'd be about the same height, and I was under the impression that Scip is a towering Adonis sort of guy. Somewhere around six-and-a-half feet tall. If Reagan's that tall, well, that would be scary.
Art nitpicking over. (Sorry, Spike. I really do love your work.)
As for the comic itself, heh! I'm totally with Scip on this. Really. What does he have to complain about? Well lets see..
... it's an insane apocalyptic cult that teaches its people from birth to subvert and destroy civilization while breeding frantically at the same time. It claims a wisdom learned from lessons of the past without actually citing one single historical fact. Instead it replaces fact with ridiculous and frankly offensive racial theory, all tied to some god figure named Jake (because that's the kind of name you'd expect a human progenitor to have, right? Just like that guy with all the lame ass workout videos in the 80s and 90s, that man must've been a saint). Apocalyptic religion is bad enough, with its bizarre rationalization that the end of all things and the unimaginable misery and suffering they would bring about is really a good thing. And it conveniently places themselves at the top, the privileged few who have been right all along despite all other indicators, who will be spared all the afore mentioned misery and suffering because they're special, and too bad for everyone else, ha ha. Jakeskin women basically turn their bodies into factories for the mass production of uneducated knife-toting criminal sociopaths.
Yes, I think that's worth a call to child services. :)
... damn. I feel like I just channeled Richard Dawkins there for a second. Of course, that phrase alone would probably earn me a serious eyeroll from him.
... Sorry for over analyzing your comic Spike. You just created a very complex and totally f-ed up cult and it put my head into overdrive.

Addendum: These people make me want to join the Cook family. I sympathize very much with the Reclamation, really, but with Jakeskins around, I might just have to don the black hood and warm up the molotovs... Mess with my civilization and it's war, dammit.
... so yes, a "We're TRYING to have a CIVILIZATION here!" shirt would be best. Though i know there'll never be one in my size. Sigh.

Dogsbody messenger for sure...
And to be honest the Cooks are just about the only group in templar I don't want to throttle on sight... I would love to see the Jakes make some noise in Cook territory

Another vote for "We're trying to have a civilisation here."
The sad thing is, I don't think Cooks and Jakes would ever come into conflict - Cook family seems to mostly disrupt rallies and protests, that sort of thing. Whereas the Jake idea of a good time is scamming some unenlightened city folk - I'm assuming through pickpocketery and three-card monte.

I'd so buy a Borndown, Savy Cavy or Sincerist shirt. (I made and lj icon out of the patch photo you posted). Hee! I bought it at NY anime fest, but I only just wore the Science Will Save Me... shirt for the first time Saturday (I was saving it for something special).
And... I'm SO with Reagan- so far these people haven't really shown me they needed their kids taken away. Sure how Feather helped Gene was unorthodox, but it's clear she loves the living sh*t out of him and the rest of her family. (And kids that age love to undress themselves anyway).

How much do we actually know about the Cooks though? It is plausible that they act against any disruptive elements, and don't just strike protests. It almost makes sense in a perverse sort of way: Have a nice quiet calm life...Or we'll blow you up.

Eric Chapman: I pretty much had that entire rant in my head already. Which is why I'm glad this is all happening in a comic and not real life. The fact that Gene could've been a perfectly normal guy with the ability to spell his own name if his mother hadn't delivered him herself and then had "medicine" tattooed into him is kinda tragic. It's like that bizarre Christianity branch-off that doesn't allow medicine so kids ended up dying because of something perfectly treatable.
All of this just leaves me in awe of Spike's world creating abilities. This is definitely something that could happen.
However I am going to be so sad if some coppers come and take Zora away. She reminds me of my little sister (well, my little sister before she started to grow up...).

I am of the opinion that Zora is awesome.
And so is Spike and her world. Amazing writing talent to go with the drawing mojo.
... this all kinda sheds clear light on why both Eugene and Zora have absolutely no hesitation in happily taking other people's stuff. With Zora I'd been thinking it was just the unstoppable curiosity of a child at maximum volume, but now..

God, I love all of you people. It's so cool to see people discussing the characters and setting and the freaking PHILOSOPHIES of Templar with so much intelligence and dedication. This comic seriously has the best fans ever, and I hope you guys all know how much Spike appreciates you.
