Templar: In case you've forgotten...

...it's November.

Yeah.

Anyway, the colors ran a little later than usual (even for me) on account of book-shipping stuff, site redesign stuff, "gotta go to a wedding on Thursday!" stuff, Comic Con stuff, and a crapload of other things that no one cares about. BUT. To my CREDIT: I will be starting on the next update immediately, sans sleep, in the hopes that service can continue uninterrupted while I'm away in Boston watching my brother-in-law get hitched.

Here's hopin'.

This update's sketches are two characters that have yet to show up or be mentioned (but will) and The Twins, a pair of conjoined albinos is sassy mid-Victorian sartorial splendor. They're the mascots of my big dumb forum. I was originally gonna have 'em be the centerpiece of my new site design, too, but was advised against it, since they took up too much space. I didn't mind too much, though. The less I have to draw, the better...

Shame, I was looking foward to seeing the Mission and the Rites. I guess it just goes to show how desperate and insecure Curio is when it comes to friends. I wonder how long she thought it would work. At least only Ben, Gene and Scip are there as they all seem pretty mellow and proberly won't take it so bad.

She is very, very lucky Reagan didn't decide to stay behind, too.

Wow. One word, and Curio is a hell of a lot less likeable.

She's still sympathetic, but in a more pitiful way.

The new site design is absolutely lovely.

Curio, Curio, Curio....tsk...

But the mascot sketch! Why, it's Daisy and Violet, right?

Scip's face in that last panel is priceless.

*scratch scratch scratch*

Oh, i love you, my oblivious little Gene :D

Curio. What the *HELL*?!

I can't believe it took me this long to realize it, but I just realized why all the characters are so delightfully expressive.

THEIR EYES ARE NEVER THE SAME TWO PANELS IN A ROW.

Spike! You! Genius!

I'm not sure this is Curio's fault. Reading back, she never said the rites were today. Scip said that, and then immediately got into an altercation with Reagan. Remember, it can be hard to get a word in edgewise when those two start on each other.

I disagree that she wasn't at fault...she purposely implied it. "You can't go. We're busy, guys! We were gonna DO stuff [...] I was gonna ask about the mission, they're having rites, we totally have to see." How would they "totally see" all the exciting things going on at the mission if they weren't happening that day? She was trying to pry people away from Tuesday. She just didn't have the opportunity to get called on it.

And look at every panel she's in today. She looks like a half-trained puppy does when it's peed on the floor somewhere and you haven't found the mess yet. She knows she's in trouble.

Meltdown!

I know people like Tuesday, so I still pity Curio. I know how she feels, watching all her friends walk off with someone you really don't like. It's like, "Gee. Thanks guys. -mummbling evil things-"
Although, I don't think I've ever gone as far as she did to keep them from "peson-like-Tuesday-who-shant-be-named".

I still really, REALLY dislike Curio. Tuesday was't stealing her friends because Curio wasn't even friends with ayyone! Curio is completely annoying, a liar, a phony, and just plain stupid.

Maybe seeing her in a different situation MIGHT change my mind, but I think Tuesday is a cool girl. Curio brings most of the cattiness. Or maybe I'm biased because sometimes I'm like Tuesday :P

I don't know...while I much prefer Tuesdays' personality and think that her confidence and poise are pretty dang groovy, I feel kind of bad for Curio...she seems to have absolutely no sense of self so she constantly looks to others to define her. Her comments about how she hates the folks who, like her, live on King Street is pretty telling as to how she hates herself and nobody should go through life like that. In the end, even though I'm sure she'd annoy the hell out of me in reality, I can't help but feel bad for someone who is that insecure.

Spike, you are a genius when it comes to crafting characters! Even the negative protagonists are so real and multi-faceted! Thank you so much for this story!!!

"Scip's face in that last panel is priceless."

Lovin' Scip's face right now. Also avatar'd. http://userpic.livejournal.com/63872558/10897277

I still feel badly for Curio, and I'm not all that fond of Tuesday though I love her, as far as aesthetics go. She seemed too involved with what people did as opposed to who they were. Maybe I was the only one who got that impression? Curio has plenty of insecurities and faults, though. She's sort of pathetic but I'm sure Tuesday's are just well-hidden. Here's hoping she's just a social climber- then she and Curio would truly be two opposite sides of the same coin.

Jesus, your "cheaper than therapy" sketch is my LIFE right now. I'm 21 goddamn years old and I still don't know how to explain to my mom that she has no need for calling every damn day.

I am certain, now, that I have known Curio. In fact, I've known a couple of her.

Gene looks like he's about ready to say something poignant. I'm ready, are you?

Yeah, Gene's about to bust out some Zen shit. "Paving your own path matters not if your path leads to Hell."

Is Curio's full name Curio Issues von Baggage, by any chance?
