Well, maybe they'll think she's a stuffed animal. She certainly acts like one.
This update's vote sketches? Cars. Because I need the practice. If it's any consolation, two of them don't actually exist. Referenced, but imaginary all the same. We're on our way to a street scene, and it's time I stopped cheating.
...
When Reagan talks, I can't help but picture her sounding a lot like Amy Winehouse.
Yeah, I know. But it fits. For now, at least. And not just cuz it looks like Ray and Amy shop at the same thrift stores.
I do this a lot. Mentally cast voices from music, that is. If I really like a vocalist or group, and I mean "one song on repeat for half an hour" like 'em, you can pretty much guarantee I'm picturing that voice coming out of a certain cartoon mouth.
The voices are always changing, though, because my tastes change. I've been doing this for years. I'm not sure how normal it is. I don't ask other cartoonists if they do the same thing, because it's, you know. Acutely embarrassing.
Huh. That's pretty much how I imagined Reagan sounding, too.
So now we have to ask which is more embarrassing: mentally casting voices for your characters, or doing them yourself when you're pretty sure nobody's around.
Because I... yeah.
I think everyone does that. Cast voices, I mean. Because normal people have voices when they talk. (wow did that ever sound stupid) I do the same thing for my characters.
And I pictured Ray kind of like that too. Not quite that low, but pretty much near.
Okay, so, really? Reagan and Scipio?
SO.
MARRIED.
Yeah, I think I mentioned once that Reagan reminded me of my aunt Donna...well, not quite as obnoxious. Geez I hope no one in my family reads this it will start some drama. And I don't want no drama...
I don't know why, but I automatically gave Raygun an Italian accent when I first saw her, even though I'm reasonably sure Reagan isn't a Mediterranean name. I can see what you mean with her sounding like Winehouse, though.
Aw! Poor Curio! I know I'm not supposed to like her, but that has to absolutely suck to have everyone stolen from under her feet. The fact that her aims were pretty selfish in the beginning, for no reason I can think of, only makes her that me more sympathetic.
Alan Tyson - Well, Mancuso's an Italian name, no?

I love reading this comic. Its like visiting another world almost. I keep thinking I visited this place when I was in collage, but kept almost missing the intresting people.
*gasp!* You're RIGHT! Definitely Latin-derived at least.
>.> It's weird but when I read a story or comic, I never give the characters different voices in my head. They all sound like me. *shrugs* Then when I see the book turned into a movie, *none* of them sound the way I imagined it - since I never imagined them at all. I also don't really imagine what characters look like, when I'm reading a novel.
So Spike, I don't think yer weird for changing their voices in your head sometimes! At least you give them voices. ;)
i never really imagine a different voice that my own when i read books or comics. i guess im just bland D:
I pictured Reagan a bit like Amy Winehouse, but with just a hint of Dr. Girlfriend for flavor.
Hahaha, "normal". A self imposed illusion. There is no real norm.
I lack the artistic talen to actually draw comics, but I write numerous short stories. And usually while I'm writing I give characters different voices in my head. They're not always the voices of famous people, some times maybe just the voice of some one I happened to overhear while writing. I realize this means next to nil coming from an anonymous guy from the intarwebz but there you go. No reason to feel embarassed about anything.... unless you still sleep in a crib with footie pajamas bearing the images of various educational preschooler cartoon characters.
