Templar: Wood called it.

Yeah, Wood, who posts in the blog comments!

Damn him.

I once described Scip in a promo post to a LJ community as "equal parts Eagle Scout, maiden auntie and Kung Fu movie miniboss." It was an off-the-cuff sort of thing, but it's probably the most accurate description I've ever given for any one of my characters ever. Poor guy.

New page, naturally. And new vote sketches!

I'm plowing my way through the sketch commissions right now, and a surprising number of them are "Just do whatever!" That is a terrible, terrible freedom to grant me. But a good proportion of them are specific, too. Specific, but very weird.

Weird is not bad. It is not bad at all.

Try and guess which of this update's sketches are requests, and which are do-whatevers. You probably can.

And remember: My podcast with KC, Josh, and Chris is tonight at 8:00 PM Eastern! Tune in and listen to us drone on importantly!

Wooohoo, I won ! I won !

... What'd I win ?

But yeah : a doctor + wax ? My first thought was something like this :

http://perso.orange.fr/santards.trad/cire_2.jpg

An anatomical wax model, "une cire anatomique", in french...

Do they still use these things today, though ? It's very XIXth century. Or maybe they do in the Templarverse ? Or he just collects medical antiques ?

So, when are we doing that trip to the Mutter Museum?

Also- SPX is real soon.

I love Ben XD

Scip freaking out over the syphilis face is awesome. And Ben's understated reaction is also awesome.

Reminds me of a Flicker photo meme out there - for shits and giggles, somebody gets a laptop, and a camera, and records for posterity people's reactions to seeing goatse for the first time.

Some people react like Scip, but the funniest ones react like Ben. I'm picturing it kinda like this:

Scip: Eww eww aw GOD why would anyone DO THAT why the HELL would you SHOW ME THAT IS HORRIBLE

Ben: Wow. Ew. I didn't know that was possible. Wouldn't that, um, hurt?

Anyway, I forget where I was going with this.

But the strip is really funny. And I thought the sketches were hilarious too, especially the cannibal pig, for some reason. I'm guessing Reagan with the chainsaw was a request.

Oh, and if you're reading this and don't know what goatse is, I suggest you DON'T google it. Go to the Wikipedia page, read the description and THEN decide if you want to see it. Trust me.

Thanks for the warning. I actually got to see that goatse front page a few years back when my then-wife, with no warning whatsoever, said, "Hey, look at this!" Our marriage kinda went downhill from there...
Hey, is there leprosy? I wanna see Ben pull some leprosy outta that box.

My own sketch request was something like "Reagan looking saucy and/or smug". Given the chainsaw I'm thinking that's probably not my request. Or is it?

Haha. Scip is such a /girl/.

Oh. Oh wow. Remind me to read all comments completely before google imaging things.

The syphilis, however? That's awesome. One thing that bothered me, though, was that Scip was reacting visually before I got the OH OH GOD, which was momentarily confusing. Other than that, though.. haw haw!

Wow. Tertiary syphilis anatomical waxworks are the "goatse" of the Templar world.

Were you intentionally going for that effect with Scip's reaction? I've seen that spiel and facial expression combination one too many times. Considering you're a goon, I can't imagine the parallel totally escaped you as you were drawing it.

Maybe it's bad that I immediately Googled "tertiary syphilis" after reading this. I found your reference image. IT'S SO MUCH WORSE IN COLOR. D:

oh mah gawd. you and KC are my favorite web comic artist. yay! :D

These days stuff like that would be done by preserving the tissue in question with latex. The end result has all the texture and color of the original, can be handled at will without damage, and is generally pretty cool if you have a strong stomach.
That's for actual, clinical or classroom use;
the good doctor may just have a collection of wax death masks for the sheer artistic value.

Sorry about the goatse thing up there to anyone who did google it; I really should have explicitly said it's NSFW in any way, shape, or form.

BTW... I listened to quite a bit of the podcast the other night; fun stuff. I wouldn't have guessed you were such a talker ;) And I wanna see "Grandmas always die" somewhere, in the comic, on a shirt, or something.

Oh, and for those wondering what Gene has got hold of...
