Someone noticed he might be before but, yup. Just wanted to confirm.
So... I'm two weeks behind. Again. but that's cool, I can deal.
Part of the reason for my perpetual inability to catch up was last weekend's ACEN. Anime Central is Chicago's biggest anime con, and really, I can't recommend it enough. M'buddy Dirk occasionally comments on the differences in attitude between anime cons and comic cons, and I really noticed it last weekend. For one, people kept feeding me. And that was NICE. Believe me, I have no personal opposition to jellybeans, chocolates, or sodas. And wow, was the crowd young. So young, in fact, I went ahead and exclusively sold misprints at five bucks a pop; $15.00 books wouldn't have gone over nearly as well with the under-21 set, I don't think. I think it was a good idea, because I unloaded over seventy of 'em, along with plenty of commissions and sketches.
Basically, nothing but a great con. I'm just glad I wasn't in the registration line when ACEN's site got hacked and the database went down for most of Friday. Apparently, some people were waiting for, like, nine hours. That kind of had to suck.
Also, this scheduled panel was sort of WHAT.

Anyway.
Someone asked me in an email recently if Templar has a RSS feed. Just Templar, they said, not all of WCN. And well, the answer is yes! You can find it here. And I encourage you, please, subscribe with Google Reader! It makes it easier for me to preen over my readership.
Tomorrow: Shout-outs, more comics.
The feed's been syndicated on LiveJournal, also:

I can't believe this "How to pick up an asian girl or guy" wasn't a joke... It was ironic, right, right ?...
I have a friend that wnt to a con that had a simmalerly named Panel a few years back. He said t was mostly tounge a cheek. What they called the 'Golden Rule' of picking up Asians is to not, under any circumstance, mention anime while in the process of picking them up or anytime there after. And if your so void of any sense, logic, or personality that you can't think of any better topic, be damn sure they are actually Japanese.
That's good advice, by the way.
Well don't keep us in the dark Spike! How DO you pick up an Asian girl or guy? Don't try to tell us you did not attend.
hey. HAY. ASIAN LADY. SIT ON MY FACE.
wow.XD
How to pick up an Asian girl or guy:
I prefer using both hands and lifting with my legs, not my back. Wouldn't want to strain anything.
I used to work as a professional dominatrix, where the Asian Fixation Persuasion was observed in full force quite often. "I don't care about bondage or flogging or technical skills, you got any Asian chicks???"
As one of my Asian co-workers put it, "Exotic? HOW AM I EXOTIC? I'm from FREEMONT!"
That would be a boring suburban town in the San Francisco Bay Area. Heh.
Oh, and they also would assume that the girl from Taiwan would know Shibari, which is a complex Japanese rope bondage technique. Because of course when all Asian girls are, uh, 9, they get sent to the top of a mountain where a wise old teacher instructs them in the ways of Shibari. Even if they are not Japanese.
Hint: when you go running up to an Asian girl and try to show off how much of an Asiophile you are? (I think I might have made that up) she is laughing at you in her head if not out loud.
Hey, Spike. It's me, that guy that dropped a good chunk of change on that comission of my two friends and I. Finally found your site and found that you made a comment of Acen.
Yeah, I remember when you saw that panel on the schedule list and all three of us were standing there in front of you laughing our asses off. Your comment was great. "There's something really damn creepy if they have a PANEL for how to pick up Asian people. Forget personality or character. Are you Asian?"
So yeah. I snuck some more peeks at your work--you are very, VERY good. I look forward to seeing you again at possibly another convention, or I may just proposition you for another comission before then. Best of luck to you.
Oh, and sorry for making you behind on your comic because of my comission. We pestered you like eight times walking back and forth through Artist's Alley that day. You got almost no comic work done. >_>;;
--That really short, Indian kid.
Hey Spike I saw your booth and picked a copy of the first book. I gotta say I'm fan now. I hope to see you at Wizard World!!!
Either I used to do Renissance Faire with Evergrey or there are multiple pro-doms with that anecdote.
i got lost in Artists Alley :(
i would've paid 15$ for a book, had i found you
ps, i waited eleven hours for my badge. made friends with lots of people in line, sang, ordered pizza (IN LINE)
it was worth it. hope to find you at wizard world
