This is what I get for being a smarmy book nerd. "March of the Librarians," made with footage taken from the most recent ALA midwinter conference in Seattle, almost makes me sad I skipped this year.

I once read a comic where a police detective, sitting in on an autopsy for a murder victim, refers to the inside of the human body as "a bag of obscene glop." After watching this twenty minute lab video of an autopsy of a suspected overdose victim, I almost agree.

Highlights: Some extremely practiced and experienced disembowelment and dissection, a skull yanked apart with little ceremony, snarky comments about kidney size, and surprise breast implants.

After reading the description. . .
Post mortem autopsy? Is there any other kind? Is there a premortem one?

Religion!

Snakehandlers goin' at it. Ecstatic dance is always my favorite part of any crackpot religion. There's not enough twirling, hooting, and hurling yourself at the floor in mainstream faith practices.

Chaser: Orthodox Jews harassing Israelis working on the Sabbath.

SHABBASSSSSS.

SHABBASSSSSS.

SHABBASSSSSS.

Repeat ad infinitum. As you can see, very, very effective.

AAAAAAAAAAHAWESOME. We're doing our first ALA this year, and this, while hilarious, is a fun little peek into what to expect.

Thanks!

This has been making the rounds lately, so I figured I'd stick it here, just in case some of you guys missed it.

A brief interview with Dick Dale, "King of Surf Guitar." Most of us probably know him best for Miserlou, AKA the Pulp Fiction theme song. And while he's answering a question geared towards aspiring professional musicians, his advice is applicable to pretty much every creative business:

- Stop trying to be a superstar, and try to be a businessman instead.
- Keep control of your own work at all costs.
- Learn to market yourself.

Really awesome. And it makes a lot of sense.

Retired construction worker moves and erects blocks of Stonehenge proportions using only rocks, wood, rope, water, and his own two hands.

This guy moves a freaking barn 300 ft onto another property without taking it apart or using machines. The vid has a ton of views, so maybe this is old/done, but if you haven't seen it, it's muy interesante.

That is deeply, deeply awesome. I love people who are insane and brilliant enough to do stuff like this. This really puts to shame those patronizing stories about aliens building all the wonders of the ancient world.

Aw, very nice. I'm loving all this ferrofluid stuff. Some day, people will have stuff like this in their homes as sculpture. Of course, by that point, they'll be on the level of those novelty plasma lamps from the 1980s, but still...

Mike Patton, former lead singer of Faith No More, gives us a piece of his mind about the band Wolfmother.

I like hearing musicians talk shit about other bands. I like the convoluted, totally subjective interpersonal politics of the music world in general, honestly. A character in Templar who's maybe five pages away from being introduced is a musician and a catty little bastard, and I'm always on the lookout for cynical crabbiness for him to spout.

The Mona Lisa is awesome. A little scary, too. And immensely disheartening. LoL.

An animation of the Bayeux Tapestry. Begins with the appearence of Halley's Comet and concludes at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

So on a trip downstairs to visit my landlord and buy some smokes, I got to catch a glimpse of him watching the Ten Commandments while he was working. I was mostly just happy to see that while they've got Christmas specials out the bunghole, some network exec decided it was prudent to run a few passover specials as well. It reminded me of this hoary old chestnut, and I apologize in advance if it's been posted here before. 10 Things I Hate About Commandments
