This is the thread for pictures that are neither art appreciation (Those go in the Art Thread) nor atrocity tourism (See: The Banana Comic thread). This is just for junk we find that we want to show one another.
Case in point: This surprisingly accurate two-page spread.
I had this book; it was called Future Cities: Homes and Living into the 21st Century, and it was published in 1979. Except for the "domestic robot" abnd arguably the TV phone (webcams?), most of this stuff has already happened. Hell, some of it's already obsolete. I was never issued my snazzy futuristic jumpsuit, but still.
Of course, this book also said we should be having the Olympics on the Moon, this decade. Can't be right all the time, I guess. |

I love something about his expression. A little bemusement, a little zen...
It also remind me, I need to make a drag-queen "sorcereress" next time I play D&D or something. _________________ How dare you pull my rose, madam!

This is what the crazy man on the street sees all the time. It's because his intersection with reality is a couple of degrees off. The conversation he's having with no one makes perfect sense to him, it's all a matter of perception, you see.
Or rather, you don't.

In reference to Spike's thing, the Roomba could easily be called a domestic robot. Now if only we could get it to serve drinks.
That whole thing just brightened up my day. I'm living in the future! _________________ I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
The Good Crook- This is my comic. Maybe you'll like it? |

Domestic robot Artoo!
He has a cup holder! It totally counts!
That reminds me. I have issues of Wired from 12 years ago, and this special 'Scenarios' issue from I-can't-tell-exactly-when (got ads for Win95 like it's the new thing, so...?). I should flip through sometime and see which is more accurate. |

Sanchi, the oldest well-preserved Buddhist site in all of India, and quite possibly begun by emperor Ashoka himself (Greatest emperor India ever had, ruled 273 BC-232 BC, established what we think of as the boundaries of modern India, enthusiastic convert to Buddhism after his days of conquest and bloodshed were over. His chakra appears on the modern-day Indian flag).
Got this great photo from Lost Cities, a great site full of great photos of abandoned ancient cities, including plenty you've heard of (Memphis, Chichen Itza, Athens) and plenty you haven't (Shravasti, Nalanda, the Udaigiri Caves). |

A small collection of photographs of Britons with Anti-Social Behaviour Orders.
| Vice Magazine wrote: | | In case you didn’t know, an ASBO is something invented by the Labour government to give out to people who are seen as a menace to the community they live in. I decided to do this because at the time there was so much coverage on things like “chavs” and “ASBOs” in the tabloid press that I wanted to find out what life was really like for the people who’d been labeled “anti-social” by the government. |

After clicking around on that site, I found what the internet was actually made for; putting pictures of people on the internet and judging them.

Also, feel free to also check out the article on the sideline about home surgery, a step by step guide to getting drunk and taking a lump out of the back of your friend's head with a razor blade and beer.
Then eating it. |

The only ID Bingo piece I need for my collection is the one where it is compared to SETI/archaeology.
Edit- because I was too trigger happy to spell check. _________________ Tarnation! a comic about stuff! |

That one is an argument I haven't heard before. _________________ Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee. Sink all coffins and all hearses to one common pool! and since neither can be mine, let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned whale!

They left out my favorite, though.
"How can you look at a BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL SUNSET over the OH-SHUN and think there's no GOD!?"
Uh... because that has absolutely nothing to do with anything at all? |
