Smut Peddler FAQ

To be updated as required.

Is the pay per author, or per page?

The pay is $50.00 per page, no matter how many people are working on the page. However, every contributor to the comic gets ten contributor's copies, and the right to buy discounted copies. So, a team of two artists and a writer would still only get $50.00 per page, but wind up with 30 contributor's copies between them.

What art restrictions are we working under?

The anthology will be black and white, and original art should be drawn or scanned at 600 dpi.

How long will the anthology be?

300 pages.

Can I just do a pin-up?

Sure! But I'd like the majority of the anthology to be comics. If more than a few people try to submit pin-ups only, I might stop accepting them after a certain number. And those who only contribute a pin-up and nothing else will be limited to five contributor's copies.

Can I submit prose?

Not right now. If I ever accept prose, it'll be as last-minute filler.

Can I use a pseudonym?

Yes, but have no illusions, someone, somewhere will likely figure out it's you. But if the goal is just to avoid having your smutty art tracked down on Google, it might work.

When do you need our proposals by?

Six months before the deadline, June 30th of 2011. But feel free to start sending them now! Some people already have.

What's the maximum pagecount for a story?

Twenty-five pages, but we've got a lot of submissions coming in, so shorter stories have a better shot at getting picked up.

Can I submit queer content?

Sure!

What kind of stuff should I submit? What are the editors looking for?

This latest issue of Smut Peddler has already accepted submissions featuring angels, demons, satyrs, dryads, and aliens. To improve your chances, avoid those topics! Not that I don't think your stuff would be great, but we'd like the book to have some variety.

Also, we're looking for shorter submissions, now. Pieces of ten pages or less have a substantially better chance of making it in.

Can I submit previously published material?

No, thanks. We'd like the anthology to be all-new. If the comic you want to submit has been published anywhere else in full, in print or online, we won't consider it.

Do I have to be American to submit a proposal?

Nope! Just 18 years old or older, and able to fluently write in English.

Where's the proposal page?
