SMUT PEDDLER! or, LET'S MAKE A COMIC PORNO ANTHOLOGY BY CHICKS.

Yeah, you like that, huh? I know you like that.

Origin Story

Many, many years ago, in the late Jurassic (or maybe it was 2003), a black-and-white anthology minicomic called Smut Peddler was released by Saucy Goose Press. It contained "sex-positive, female-friendly erotic comics from the best and the brightest in the independent small press publishing world," and participants included Carla Speed McNeil (Finder), Layla Lawlor (Raven's Children) Sean Bieri (Jape), and Tom Beland (True Story, Swear to God). It was a fantastic series of comics, with three issues published before its extended hiatus. This project strives to pull Smut Peddler out of the mothballs and once again gift the world with quality filth, but in the format of a square-bound, standard-sized, black-and-white book. We're movin' up in the world, baby!

NOTE: The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2011!

The Very Simple Content Rules

• There must be female creative involvement in each submission.

A single woman can be responsible for both the art and the writing. A woman can be the author, scripting for a male artist. A woman can be the artist, illustrating a male author's script. Three women and two men can be working together. You get the idea.

• To participate in the anthology, first submit a premise, estimation of length, and a sample of art and/or writing previously produced by the creators.

Quality will be the primary factor when a submission is being considered, so show us your best stuff! A secondary consideration will be originality. Not in the broader sense, but to make sure no two stories in the anthology wind up too alike. The submissions will be judged primarily by Johanna Draper-Carlson, Trisha Lynn, and myself, who make up the book's editorial staff.

• All activity depicted must be legal.

What's considered legal varies from place-to-place, but use your best judgement. Submissions containing rape, bestiality, and sexualized obvious under-18s will be rejected outright, and the editors will have the final say on anything else. We're reasonable people, but let's not get Mike Diana'ed, here.

• Submitted art must be designed to fit standard comic book dimensions.

Typically, this is a 11" x 17" sheet of bristol board, with a 10" x 15" bleed and a 9" x 13.5" panel border. (You can buy pre-ruled sheets of comic paper at many art stores.) For more information for the do-it-yourselfers, consult Blambot's page on the subject.

Adventurous types can draw within a similar aspect ratio to the standard, as long as the page is still proportional. If you don't know what any of that means, stick to the standard size.

• The deadline for completion is December 31st, 2011.

Plenty of time for everyone. All art should be uploaded to the designated FTP and in its own folder, ready to be subjected to pre-press on this date.

• Email all submissions to Spike.

And that's it! for now, anyway.

Pay

Pay for submission to the anthology will be $50.00 a page, plus 10 contributor's copies, and the perpetual right to buy copies of the anthology for 50% off the cover price for resale as long as the comic is in print.

This means that, if you do a lot of conventions or sell your work online, you can stock the anthology at your table and in your online store.

This pay scheme is flexible. Email Spike for details.
